Eid Songs - Day 22
Bismillah, in the name of Allah.
I like singing. I will sing for every occasion be it joyous or mundane. I didn't say I was any good at it, nor kind to the ears, but sing I will so help me Allah.
During Ramadan I have made extra effort to surprise people with a few lines, a verse, or an ancient poem sung to some unfitting tune. It's much fun, try it.
For both the Eid celebrations every year I take my song books, cough-free throat and duffs (drums) to a family members' house and hush them all up in order to perform very loudly and cheerfully. I will sing everything from Dawud Wharnsby's English nasheed 'These are the days of Eid', to Shaam's Urdu naat 'Jashne Amade Rasool' to Mesut Kurtis's Arabic 'Burdah'. Yep, if I've heard it, I know it, I will sing it. I like to throw in remixes of popular 60s songs and contemporary rap jingles too, you know, for the 'younger audience'.
Sometimes the family members join in, I have made it quite a tradition now, sometime they will throw things at me. But does that stop me? NEVER!
Today I bought these two Eid Song books from an Islamic Store called The Message a couple of miles away. The songs are okay, I rate them 5-6 out of 10 but I think I bought them mostly to jazz up the lyrics and annoy, I mean, entertain valued guests and friends with my own personalised renditions. Would you like to hear a little melody by yours truly? Why are you nodding, say yes! Fine then. Hmph.
Well here are some lyrics of the songs I mashed together. Enjoy!
1. "What could it be?" (Sung to the tune of 'The Lion Sleeps tonight')
'Samosey and kebabs, sisters in hijabs - oohhh, what could it be? (Ramadan'a'Ramadan
The Imam in in his robe, brothers in a thobe - oh what could it be? (Ramadan'a'Ramadan)'
Here is where someone screeches the 'wee' part with 'EEEEIIIIIIIDDDDD!' ...NEXT!
2. "Eidmas Cream for you" (Sung to the popular tune of Happy Birthday. Don't sing this in public though, the melody is actually copyrighted) ...NEXT!
'Eid Mubarak to you, Eidmas Cream for you too, Everyone's happy we're sharing, as Muslims are s'pposed to!'
3. "Rainbow Muslim" (No, not gay, I said Rainbow, sheesh. This needs rapping, it works best)
'I'm a Muslim, dressed in black. I went to the masjid but now I'm back. I'm a Muslim dressed in blue, I read the Quran and the hadith too. I'm a Muslim dressed in green, ghusl* and wudu* make me clean. I'm a Muslim dressed in red, Making sure all the poor are fed. I'm a Muslim dressed in gold, listening to parents, doing what I'm told. I'm a Muslim dressed in yellow, and I give salam to every fellow'.
Yeah, that's a little immature but still a cute experiment. Practise your singing, perhaps one day we'll start a Muslim choir? Anyone up for a duet? No? -taps screen- Hello?
Zaufishan ★ singing 'Eidmas tree, oh Eidmas tree, how exotic you are... Eidmas tree, oh Eidmas tree, you live in Qat-ar...'

We must have been seperated at birth!

On the 2nd day of Eid, my ummah gave to me, two sheesha pipes (HARAM!HARAM!) and a few dates from a palm tree.
On the 3rd day of Eid, my ummah gave to me, three camels jumping, two sheesha pipes and a few dates from a palm tree.
There's only 3 days of Eid..however there are 28-30 days of Ramadan :p
They ACTUALLY sang an Arab-ised version of this for xmas at a school I worked in, in Dubai. Happy days.
My personal fav is the 1st, can just imagine the out-of-synch chorus of 'Eid-awimba-way'.
