Spring Sensations

The wings of a butterfly glistening in the sun, light rain pouring on the face simultaneously with the sun offering a warm hug, the beautiful pink blossoms in the trees covering the ground as they gently fall, turning the world into a beautiful pink carpet…spring is here yet again and these are just some of the spring sensations that I love so much in this gorgeous season. Subhan’Allah the nature that surrounds us is a perfect illustration of the manifest beauty of our Great Creator.

The brightness of the yellow in a daffodil or the sweet prettiness of the red rose – the beauty of nature can leave one in utter awe and amazement as the heart finds peace, tranquillity and happiness as such not found elsewhere, when absorbing such delightful visions which we constantly take for granted and not care to give a second thought to.

Appreciating the exquisiteness, elegance and delicacy of the natural world can put one at ease with their own state and place in the world. I always find myself relaxing and drifting into the thoughts of the Almighty who with His Magnificence and Splendour gave us all the senses with which we are enabled to experience the nature and environment around us. I feel spiritually connected and uplifted by the mere sight of the glorious works of Allah Almighty as it portrays His Greatness in all things.

Humans possess an instinctive appeal to beauty and all things that appear attractive. It is the nature of man to go towards the beautiful and to take pleasure from its presence. In a hadith the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions "Allah is Beautiful and He cares for beauty" Allah Almighty is Himself the most Beautiful beyond measure and it is impossible for man to comprehend as we have not the ability or capacity to see or recognise the full extent of the greatest beauty of all.
The beauty we see around us in the form of colourful flowers, radiant trees, the cooling breeze and shining sun are but a tiny fraction of the magnificent Greatness and Bounty of Allah Almighty.

In the Qur’an Allah Almighty tells us of the flawlessness and perfection of the world around us. The beauty of nature and the scenery around us is part of a much bigger system of pure perfection, Subhan’Allah.

… You will not find any flaw in the creation of the All-Merciful. Look again-do you see any gaps? Then look again and again. Your sight will return to you dazzled and exhausted! (Surat al-Mulk, 3-4)

Allah reminds us of the beauty He has created for us – He mentions the ‘luxuriant gardens’ and ‘the things of varying colours’ all these beauties are indeed great blessings for us to enjoy.

We built seven firm layers above you. We installed a blazing lamp. We sent down cascading water from the clouds so that by it We might bring forth grains, plants, and luxuriant gardens. (Surat an-Naba’, 12-16)

And also the things of varying colours He has created for you in the earth. There is certainly a sign in that for people who pay heed. (Surat an-Nahl, 13)

If such is the beauty of the Earth where unworthy sinners like us reside then one cannot begin to imagine the beauty of the Gardens of Paradise – certainly the pleasures and beauty of Jannah is unconceivable for us.

Just as Allah Almighty loves beauty and everything beautiful; I pray that we illuminate our hearts and souls with the light of true beauty so that the Almighty may also love us. Ameen.
