Halal Mixtape Vol 2.

In Islam there is always some room for entertainment. As I'll be attending 'The Milaad Festival' in Holland, I won't be able to write frequently. So instead, let me entertain you?

You might know Halal mixtape Vol 1: A group of Americans, who just simply lost the plot. They convert well-known songs into its Halal-version. Recently, these guys, also known as Lota Pani crew, made a come-back: Halal Mixtape Vol 2 -Return of the Lota. They asked my brother Faisal Mirza to give them some fame in the EU, and I would love to do that as well. So here you go, the track: SunnahBack, inspired by Justin Timberlake (click on own risk).

'A fresh approach' to Islam

Spearheaded by 25 year old Rehan Iqbal, the Birmingham-based likeMEDIA.tv was launched officially in October 2009 by a group of young social entrepreneurs to help to generate a “portal of high quality Islamic knowledge for the online community”. Rehan and his team were aware that much of the useful information and advice aimed at young people was being lost at one-off events and forums. They decided to create likeMEDIA.tv as a platform from which to film as many of these events and talks as possible and put them online in a fresh, dynamic, and accessible format.

likeMEDIA.tv activities are based around taking 'a fresh approach' to Islam for people who want to ask about religion but may be afraid to ask out loud or in public. It’s not always easy for young people to talk about religion, but likeMEDIA.tv provides an effective and user-friendly solution by harnessing the power of the internet to educate and inform in a format that appeals to young Muslims. For example, their “Now That’s What I Call Islam!” series of events in October last year used popular song titles to discuss issues such as drugs, clubbing and relationships from a religious perspective. They had a succession of events at leading UK universities including Cambridge and Nottingham with titles such as 'Where is the Love?', 'In Da Club' and 'Man in the Mirror'. Hellalujah done it the halal-way!

So, Bilal Hassam e-mailed me for a while about a Nasheed-artist from Canada named Nader Khan. I was interested, but didn't have the opportunity to meet him or listen to his Nasheeds. Well, today in the morning I received a text-message from Zaigham Khan, saying that Nader Khan and Hamza Robertson will be performing in a school just around the corner from my place.

As I wanted to avoid any disappointment in Bilal Hassam's sense of "good" Nasheed, I didn't look Nader up on the internet. As I got there, I came across a lot of familiar faces saying that they were there for the same reasons as I am.

I walked into this room full of brothers and sisters and couldn't figure out who Nader was (as I never looked him up, remember?). So, I just sat quietly waiting till they would announce his name.

Later on they announced Nader's name and wow! You know, I can't really describe how it felt, but it's for you to experience. Here the video as I saw it live today with Nader Khan!

I will be meeting Nader Khan tomorrow again in a private gathering, in case you guys got any questions for Nader, please do send them to info@muslimsinengland.com

Marrakesh in Manchester!

28th October, Spinningfield, Manchester.

Today, City of Manchester came up with an idea how to get a touch of Marrakesh in the city.

I always wanted to ride one of these. I do remember my aunty or a close relative of mine having one in her farm back in Rawalphindi, Pakistan. Even though I was in the US and missed this lovely day, I hope any of you had the chance riding these great camels.

Documentary film The Message of islam

This is again one of them movies which you just have to see once in a while to get that feeling back of 1400 years ago. Everybody is shown except for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The scholars and historians of the famous 'Al-Azhar University in Cairo' have approved the accuracy and fidelity of this film.

Why do they not show The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)? They say: 'The makers of this film honor the Islamic tradition which holds that the impersonation of The Prophet (pbuh) offends against the spirituality of His (pbuh) message. Therefore, the person of Mohammad will not be shown'.

Pakistan celebrates 62nd Independence Day

Celebrating? What exactly?
Alhamdulillah, Pakistan and India gained their independence in 1947 and to this day, the fireworks are crackling.

Amidst the "balle's" and "oh yaar, mubarak ho's" there is an impacting element to separation we forget: Those leaders who fought for it

Firstly there is Mahathma Gandhi. The non-violent activist lawyer who succumbed to every power except defeat. As a revolutionary speaker he rescued India from the British Empire, keeping family values, local employment and cultural progress the keys to India's character. He was that person which said "What difference does it make to the dead, the orphan, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?" The same question resonates heavily in today's climate.
