EDL Thugs... So cool.

Heard about the English Defence League thugs who attacked a George Gallaway meeting in Manchester this Sunday?

No, neither had I, until I’d read a friend’s Facebook status.

On Sunday 27th June, a group of thugs entered Manchester’s Wythenshawe Forum (which I’m ashamed to admit is within my local area, and known for its chav-tastic presence). They scuffled with guards and eyewitness reports state ‘they stormed into the hall, punched several people, poured beer over others, threw chairs at children and screamed "Israel should have killed you all".’
Because THAT’s what the Palestinian cause really need: a herd of unemployed low-life hooligans fighting them.

A video of an attempted attack was uploaded by an EDL member before promptly being withdrawn- but not before an anti-EDL activist reported it. See here the video: Continue reading "EDL Thugs... So cool."...

Election Madness!

At this moment in time, is there anywhere you can go in the UK where you do not get a whiff of election fever? In my lifetime, I do not believe that it has ever been so. Such excitement and such discussion over a British election? Unbelievable! And in just a day or so we will know the result.

OK, so maybe in 1997 when a young Tony Blair hit the campaign trail there were some similar scenes but such lengthy debate and discussion? Not so in my eyes. If anyone had any doubts about the benefits of the televised debates I think they must have been put to rest a little by the simple fact that they seem to have brought back to life many of those voters who have, for a while now, been sinking into a forever deepening pit of apathy.

27th New York Muslim Day Parade

19th October, 2009.

The 27th Annual Muslim Day Parade took place, and as I was in New York I couldn't miss that.

The participants assembled on Madison Avenue and 41st street. School buses arrived with young Muslim students holding banners representing their schools and others holding flags representing their countries.

I went to the parade with very promising young filmmakers, Musa Syeed and Bassam Tariq. Bassam Tariq works in advertising (and has done several commercials in US) and Musa is the co-producer of A Son's Sacrifice (Best Short Documentary). His most recent film, Bronx Princess, aired nationally in the US last month.

Celebrating Eid and its virtues

Alhamdulillah, Allah (SWT) has blessed us to see this glorious day once again, but do we really reflect on the blessing that this day holds?

Every moment of Ramadhan is precious. We must occupy ourselves in worship every moment and every moment every deed has mass reward.

Abu Hurayrah (RA) narrates that the Holy Prophet (SAW) has said that: “Every deed that the son of Adam does will be multiplied tenfold to seven hundred fold and a reward given accordingly. But Allah has said that fasting is an exception because it is observed for His sake and He will reward for it. A man gives up his passion and his food for His sake”. (Bukhari and Muslim). Ramadan Returns

Alhamdulila we are blessed with that time of year again...yes Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of immense blessings and is a time where one can ‘recharge their spiritual batteries .’ There are many rewards that one can reap in this month and there are many Hadith which come to mind in relation to this however one I would like to share is that:

The Prophet SAW said “Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.”  (Bukhari)

Pakistan celebrates 62nd Independence Day

Celebrating? What exactly?
Alhamdulillah, Pakistan and India gained their independence in 1947 and to this day, the fireworks are crackling.

Amidst the "balle's" and "oh yaar, mubarak ho's" there is an impacting element to separation we forget: Those leaders who fought for it

Firstly there is Mahathma Gandhi. The non-violent activist lawyer who succumbed to every power except defeat. As a revolutionary speaker he rescued India from the British Empire, keeping family values, local employment and cultural progress the keys to India's character. He was that person which said "What difference does it make to the dead, the orphan, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?" The same question resonates heavily in today's climate.

The Night of Forgiveness

In the Islamic year the 15th of Shabaan is the most auspicious night (also known as Laylat ul Baraat meaning 'Night of forgiveness/emancipation'), after Laylat ul Qadr in Ramadan.

The Holy Prophet (saw) has said that during the night of the 15th Shabaan, the Almighty Allah sets forward decisions in matters of sustenance, life, death and the welfare of the people. On such a commemorated night, brother Azeem Mirza (founder MIE), Saad Naveed (webmaster MIE), and Umar Mirza (partner MIE) and myself, Abdullah Ahmad, spent the 15th of Shabaan doing this:
After waking up, performing wudhu, praying Fajr, having breakfast and wandering around all day - finally here it was- THE night of Laylat ul Barat in the local masjid (MQI - Holland, The Hague). Continue reading "The Night of Forgiveness"...
