Kyrgyzstan’s War With Itself

Civil war escalates as groups fight for power

Clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbek residents in the cities of Osh and Jalalabad began on the 10th June and escalated over the weekend. The number of refugees fleeing the ‘ethnic violence’ may soon rise to 100,000, a US envoy said on Tuesday.

Imam Charles!

9th of June, "The Prince of Wales aka Prince Charles delivered a speech titled "Islam and the Environment". He speaks about the inspiration that he sees in Islam to ensure 'the environment'. A passage:

"This ignores the spiritual teachings of traditions like Islam, which recognize that it is not our animal needs that are absolute; it is our spiritual essence, an essence made for the infinite. But with consumerism now such a key element in our economic model, our natural, spiritual desire for the infinite is constantly being reflected towards the finite. Our spiritual perspective has been flattened and made earthbound and we are persuaded to channel all of our natural, never-ending desire for what Islamic poets called “the Beloved” towards nothing but more and more material commodities. Unfortunately we forget that our spiritual desire can never be completely satisfied." Continue reading the full speech here.

Post election Blues

O, here I go with my post election blues. I was all ready to title this “Hung, drawn and quartered”: a bitter reflection on the Liberal Democrat loss, but I have decided to try and be a little less biased from the start. Let’s see if it will actually work.

I guess I didn’t really believe that the Liberal Democrats would win but the hope was there, and it may not even be that we wanted a Liberal government but I think what we were all hoping for was a change. I was so sick of seeing the same old politics, the same old parties, and the same old same old. NOT that the Lib Dems were really that drastically different but a refreshing thought nevertheless.

Election Madness!

At this moment in time, is there anywhere you can go in the UK where you do not get a whiff of election fever? In my lifetime, I do not believe that it has ever been so. Such excitement and such discussion over a British election? Unbelievable! And in just a day or so we will know the result.

OK, so maybe in 1997 when a young Tony Blair hit the campaign trail there were some similar scenes but such lengthy debate and discussion? Not so in my eyes. If anyone had any doubts about the benefits of the televised debates I think they must have been put to rest a little by the simple fact that they seem to have brought back to life many of those voters who have, for a while now, been sinking into a forever deepening pit of apathy.

Israel, what's next?

These days, it seems Israel is mentioned quite a few times in the news. One of the most recent scandals regarding Israel is the forgery of 12 British Passports used by suspects in the killing of a Hamas official in Dubai.

Yom-e-Azadi ?

If you haven't heard yet, Pakistan gained its independence from Britain 62 years ago on August 14th, 1947. We're all aware of Pakistan's current condition, and there are a few homeless people who give their thoughts on this national holiday:

If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit.

In the deep moral abyss of the ‘expenses scandal’, the nation mourns the falling from grace of those posh-nosh-munching loveable rogues. Ooh don’t you just want to ruffle their flouncy hair, those cheeky munchkins. Stealing our money, all the while laden with rhetoric with a reassuring nod and smile, hands outreached for our votes- our trust- our pockets.

The question is, do you blame them? ... Continue reading "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit."...

British Politics

Politics plays an important role in the lives of every individual living in this country. But, how much do we, as ordinary British citizens know about the English Political scene? MP expenses are bought into question every other week, techniques to survive the recession are brought forward every other day, yet the British political scene fails to capture the hearts and minds of the everyday Brit. Vote NO for BNP!

June 4th 2009 is European Election Day and we need all potential voters to make good use of their vote. The British National Party (BNP) is a Racist and Fascist party based in Britain, but also has many links to many ‘European Nationalist Parties’ which form a network of dangerous extremists...

Israeli barbarism, Another violation

At this moment in time, I am really finding it difficult to find words to describe the violations committed by the Israeli government. It seems as though every time you open a newspaper, there is always a crime being committed against these innocent people (the Palestinians), who just want to return to the land that they belong to. Israel has continually defied international laws and conventions and still continues its barbaric assault on these people. Let’s make one thing clear that we as Muslims are against oppression of any kind and will always fight for justice for any people or nation that are being oppressed.
